Car Story
The Integra Type R was produced under the Acura badge only for North America and was sold under the Honda badge for the rest of the world. The 1997 Acura Integra Type R model year is special because: 1) it was the first Type R of any model sold outside of Japan, 2) it was the first year of production, and 3) it was only produced for one year before Honda updated and refreshed the Integra. Versus all other Acura Integra Type Rs produced from 1998-2021, 1997 is the only model year with pre-facelift front headlights, front bumper and front lip spoiler, rear taillights, rear bumper, a trunk release latch, and an ["ACURA"](https://provobook.com/photos/110) branded steering wheel (not the "A" Acura logo). Only 480 examples were produced with the pre-facelift front and rear fascia for the one year run in 1997 (320 for the US and 160 for Canada). This example is 1 of 160 Canadian Domestic Market examples. The center armrest plaque identifies the car as [#396](https://provobook.com/photos/99) for the model year. The 1997 [CDM version](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpeB7gsJSVs&t=7s) differs from the USDM version with factory equipped day-time running lights, CDM specific floor mats, km based speedometer and odometer, and no body panel VIN stickers (as they weren't implemented in Canada until 1999). This car spent its first 28 years in Vancouver, Canada with its first owner. Original owner seems to have used [dealer purchased](https://provobook.com/photos/89) steel wheels on the car and preserved the original wheels and tires, which are still with the car today - including all 4 factory Bridgestone Potenza RE010 tires with [1997 DOT manufacturing date codes](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfnDoZfLHfE&t=5s). The car was purchased by the selling dealer in June 2025, imported to Blaine, Washington, and [listed on Bring a Trailer](https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1997-acura-integra-type-r-26/). After purchasing the car from Bring a Trailer and taking delivery in Los Angeles, CA; it was determined that: - front bumper had been repainted. - trunk had been repainted. - one of the four original wheels had been repainted, but retained its original factory tire with [1997 DOT date code](https://provobook.com/photos/84). - all other paint and all body panels look to be factory original. - spare wheel/tire and tool kit were not included. This 2-owner Type R is otherwise 100% stock and unmodified. A true OEM survivor and a particularly rare CDM version that is completely rust-free and drives and feels like new. One of only three 1997 Acura Integra Type Rs that I know of that still has its factory wheels and tires from 1997. [September 2026 Carfax](https://provobook.com/photos/82) shows no accidents, clean title, no mileage discrepancies, and a 2-owner history with the selling dealer registration in July 2025. Since purchasing the car in July 2025, the car was shipped to Los Angeles, CA and has undergone a light restoration to bring this already pristine example back to factory-new condition.
Sale, Mileage & Service History
July 16, 1997: original purchase from [Amigo Motors in Vancouver, Canada](https://provobook.com/photos/90) for $34,931.40 (CAD). November 28, 2002: [last service record](https://provobook.com/photos/73) provided by the original owner shows 46,395 km on the invoice. Per [Carfax](https://provobook.com/photos/82) and consistent with the first owner’s records, the first owner seems to have stopped driving the car in 2004, when mileage was reported at 50,000 km during emission inspection and next reported at 50,541 km in 2025. The original owner averaged ~7,000 km/year for seven years then seems to have put the car into storage for 21 years until being acquired by Elite Vancouver Motors in June 2025. June 17, 2025: invoice provided by Elite Vancouver shows slave cylinder replacement, oil change, and AC system maintenance with blower motor and blend door actuator repair with 50,541 km on the invoice. July 28, 2025: sold by Elite Vancouver on [Bring a Trailer for $67,000 (USD)](https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1997-acura-integra-type-r-26/) with 50,966 km. March 2026: brake fluid, clutch bleed, and transmission fluid service at Acura South Bay at 51,206 km (31,818 miles).
Restoration
November 2025: Sourced JDM 5-lug spare wheel/tire, tool kit, and USDM spare wheel sticker. March 2026: - Purchased and installed a set of OEM wheels, repainted Championship White, with new OEM center caps and Yokohama Advan Fleva V701 (195/55R15) tires. Factory wheels and tires put into storage. - Installed new old-stock OEM valve cover. - Powder coated arms of front strut tower bar. May 2026: Repainted front bumper. June 2026: Paint correction, paintless dent removal, full-car clear PPF installation and ceramic coating, dry ice and laser cleaning of engine bay and undercarriage [by I Am Detailing](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Y1xwStTfio&list=LL&index=1). Installed OEM front license plate bumper plugs.
